Being 101

My girl Beth has a blog as well. She's my baking buddy, and understands this need to create in the kitchen.
Eric Liddle, the "Flying Scotsman", and the basis for the movie Chariots of Fire has been quoted as saying, "When I run I feel the pleasure of God". I think perhaps, that the same pleasure is felt when Beth & I bake. I haven't confirmed this with her, but If I were a betting woman...

With apologies to Bethie, I swiped this entry from her blog site, as well as my comment to her entry. The more I wrote in the comment box, the more I thought, "This is turning into a blog...". So here you go...!

Starbucks has this new campaign going on now with nice quotes on the side of their cups from famous...or not so people on the way they see things in life. Here's one that so resonated with who I am. Baking is done out of love, to share with family and friends, to see them smile." --Anna Olson Chef and hostess of the all-dessert show Sugar on Food Network Canada. To add to that I met Gale Gand...Head pastry chef of TRU in Chicago, author of many great dessert cookbooks and star in her show "Sweet Dreams" on Food Network. It was an honor to meet her and her partner Executive Chef Rick Tramonto of TRU. I served them this last week at work and it made my day...and week...now if only I could get an invite to their kitchen! I'll keep you posted.

Let's see... last week - completely stressed out, way too much on the "to do" list, needing to pack for Geneva, launching a new program with my teammates in 2 days, I found myself in the kitchen.
Baking.
Perhaps not so much baking as "Creating". Creating Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Peppermint Ice Cream. For who? I had no idea. Half my team wasn't eating sugar.
But something COMPELLED me to be in there. To create, to be, to BREATHE.
And somehow, in the midst of that, I had a great communion with God, and came away refreshed.
The program went off well, I got to Geneva (clothed, with clean underwear), and all was again right in the world.
Baking?
Bake on!

There is something about what we love to do - hobbies, giftings, talents, call them what you will. Those things that make us who we are, are the things which can bring us the most joy. Makes sense, heh? Aren't we our happiest when we are operating out of who we are? And, I believe that when we are operating out of who we are, and using those giftings, we are closer to the God who made us.
