A Day with Jane

Yesterday was a quintessential English day – complete with requisite all-day rain showers. It reminded me of the scene from Sense & Sensibility, when Marianne injures her ankle, and Willoughby rescues her. That’s the sort of rain we had yesterday, steady, unyielding, and with some wind. It was plenty warm; all I needed was a light shawl, and a very large umbrella (or “brolly”) as I took a walk.

Continuing in the (Austen) spirit of yesterday, this morning Cheryl and I were treated to a visit Jane Austen’s house, situated nearby our school. On display in the house were costumes from the film “Becoming Jane”, as well as the wee table Jane was said to write all of her books at. Our director Pam treated us, and following our tour, we had tea & scones across the road. This was a “working tea”, as we discussed the upcoming Ministry to Women day, which Cheryl and I are preparing and teaching.

During our second term here, there was a women’s ministry weekend course, which we as students were asked to attend as part of our course. By the end of the day, many of us were requesting ministry. Seeing this, Pam realized the need to have such a day as part of the second term. September 6 will be a split day, men and women separated to hear teaching into specific gender issues, and will be able to receive ministry as well.

Cheryl and I have been asked to write the teaching, and present it on the day. Please pray for us as we prepare. We will be teaching two of the three sessions (that’s about 3 hours of teaching content), and most likely ministering in the final session. We spent the remainder of the day working through a basic outline – even working through dinner! Cheryl, being the lovely friend that she is, bought me a Snickers bar to get me through the last few hours of working. My brain was full by the end – but it was a great day!
